DALL•E 2 - An Artificial Intelligence for Art

Lately I’ve been playing around with an artificial intelligence for creating images. It is quite addictive. You open up a browser window, surf over to DALL•E 2 and enter a prompt. DALL•E 2 runs for a while and creates four images based on your prompt. If you create something you like, you can download the image or have DALL•E 2 create more variations on the image.

The program is still in beta, but you can be added to their waitlist. You get a certain number of free generations per month, but you can purchase more. The program is web-based so it is not executed on your local computer - I usually use my iPad’s web browser to run the program. https://openai.com/dall-e-2/

If you need help in creating your prompt, I suggest the DALL•E 2 prompt book. https://dallery.gallery/the-dalle-2-prompt-book/ Even if you are not interested in DALL•E 2 I would suggest downloading the PDF as it will give you a slew of prompt words that may inspire you to create something new in your own art practice.

How does this and other A.I.’s affect traditional artists? I believe traditional artist are always looking to see new ways of seeing. DALL•E 2 provides yet another viewfinder to use.
